Got Questions?

We’ve Got Answers!

Our most common questions are found here.

Let us simplify complex topics so you get the answers you need—fast by looking at all of our FAQ..

Can my home inspector inspect my chimney during the home inspection? Or, what my air duct cleaner, they say they do chimney's also?

If you want to make sure your chimney is structurally sound, is safe to operate, and your primary concern is the comfort and safety of your family and your home, you will want the most experienced and knowledgeable chimney inspector available.

Home inspectors are not specialized and are in genreral not properly trained to complete a proper Level 2 inspection as it related to structure, clearances, parge coats, materials, etc.

Many home inspectors in ouor area have started doing Level 2 inspections. If you choose a local home inspector and then send us teh report for a repair quote, we will be unable to provide a quote qithout us inspecting the fireplace/chimney ourselves. Inspectors do not take the proper measurements or gather the proper information to fully quote a job and often provide only cursory and incomplete overview.

We do however provide Level 2 inspection services to some local home inspectors who want to insure the inspection is done completely. We partner with the following home inspection companies to conduct proper and thorough Level 2 inspections for your real estate purchase.

Can I just use gas logs instead of wood in my fireplace?

No! Of the fires investigated, over 60% were gas only. Gas is more likely to cause a fire because the temperature is constant and can be accidentally left on for long periods of time. Although a wood fire does reach higher temperatures, these temperatures do come down and an unattended fire will go out.

Further, the condition of the chimney may be such that exhaust gases including carbin monoxide can escape into the home due to cracks, damage, or other unknown conditions.

Every fireplace and chimney should be inspected prior to use with ANY fuel type.

How often should my chimney be inspected or cleaned?

The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) Standard 211 recommends that chimney and fireplace systems are inspected and swept annually to reduce the risk of fires and carbon monoxide poisoning.

NFPA-211 fuether recommends that chimneys should be inspected once a year, as well as at every major event such as an earthquake or windstorm and at every change of owner.

Are you licensed?

There is no licensure for chimney sweeps in South Carolina.

There is a National Certification through the Chimney Safety Institute of America (CSIA). All of our Upstate South Carolina chimney inspectors complete a certification program to teach the basic fundamentals of chimney inspection, including techniques of inspection, code knowledge, and basic understanding of chimney types and operation.

After this certification has been awarded, our inspectors work with our Master Sweep with over 30 years of expereince. Their on-the-job training takes over a year and is personally supervised by our Master Sweep, Wes Harvey.

Do you offer financing options?

We currently work with Acorn to offer financing options for our clients. They offer zero percent financing for up to 12 months for those who are qualified. and approve scores below 600 in some cases.
